Jan. 29th - early morning phone call with Birch

Phone call was actually at 12:30 am PST but 8:30 am for Seth -- Birch has been anxious to talk about the nitty-gritty of Seth's PT work since Birch is a physical therapist:
  • Seth reported that he is feeling stronger; though commented that it is hard to know his limitations sometimes due to all the nerve damage
  • He has been doing PNF (proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation) with his physical therapist
  • He can lift his arms our pretty far to the sides of him; thought his broken scapula do cause pain and limitations; also limits his range of motion
  • Can put arms about 40 degree angle away from his body (side to side)
  • Got out of a flat bed for the first time
  • Not sure yet if his next step will be an outpatient rehab or inpatient rehab (waiting to hear from insurance company); hoping to move to this next step of rehab in a week or so
  • Hasn't been using his ear buds too much to listen to music/books/etc because hearing is one of the only senses he Seth has that works great and it makes him feel claustrophobic to have the ear buds in; hoping to get over that sensation so he can enjoy listening to things to fill his time
  • Has lost 16 pounds
  • Rubbed his eyes for the first time on his own
  • Scratched his head for a half and hour the other night "just because I could"
  • Gets sore from laying in bed so much
Seth was really chipper but tired as he had just finished a hard workout with the physical therapist.  Birch was impressed with his progress and also comforted to hear that they types of things Seth is doing with the physical therapist would be what he would do as his PT.  The only thing better is if Birch could actually be Seth's PT!
